A Brief History of the Mandolin
The mandolin’s origins trace back to the 17th century in Italy, evolving from the lute and becoming a staple in both classical and folk music. Its rich history spans centuries, with various iterations influenced by cultural movements and different playing styles. Over time, the mandolin has become the heart of many genres—particularly bluegrass and folk music—and its distinct sound is unmistakable.
In the early 20th century, manufacturers began introducing mandolins that resembled electric guitars, catering to a new generation of musicians. The DMA-40’s design draws on this evolution, marrying traditional elements with a contemporary twist. Today, the mandolin has evolved to become a favourite among musicians who seek a rich, bright sound with expressive tonal versatility.
